Software Update Guide for Skyworth 40STD5000
If your TV is experiencing software glitches, won't connect to the internet, or the OTA (Over-The-Air) update fails, a Manual USB Update is the most reliable way to force a firmware refresh.

1. Prepare the USB Drive
For the TV to recognize the update file, your hardware must meet these specific requirements:
Capacity: Use a USB flash drive with a capacity between 8GB, 16GB and 32GB. Drives larger than 32GB or smaller than 8GB may fail to boot the installer.
Format: The drive must be formatted to FAT32. (NTFS or exFAT formats are generally not supported by the bootloader).
Firmware File: Download the official firmware for the 40STD5000 from the Skyworth Resource Center or your regional support site.
The file is upgrade_image_no_tvcertificate_tvconfig_project_id.pkg
Crucial: Do not rename the file and save it directly to the root directory (do not place it inside any folders).
2. Perform the "Forced" Update
Follow these steps precisely to initiate the recovery-style update:
Power Down: Turn OFF the TV and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Insert Media: Plug your prepared USB drive into the USB 2.0 port (usually the black port) on the side or back of the TV.
The "Long Press" Trigger: Locate the physical Power Button on the TV chassis (usually underneath the front frame or on the back panel).
Press and hold the physical Power Button.
While still holding the button, plug the power cord back into the wall.
Initiate Update: Continue holding the button until the "System Upgrading" or "Software Updating" progress bar appears on the screen. Once it appears, you can release the button.
Completion: Wait for the progress bar to reach 100%. The TV will automatically restart. Do not unplug the power or the USB drive during this process.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
USB Not Recognized: Ensure the drive is FAT32 and between 8GB–32GB. Try a different USB port if available.
Stuck on Logo: This indicates a "boot loop." Perform a "Hard Reset" by unplugging the TV for 60 seconds, then retry the Manual USB Update.
"Verification Failed": The firmware file is likely corrupted or for a different model. Re-download the file and ensure it matches the 40STD5000 exactly.
Update Won't Start: Ensure the file is in the root directory and not hidden inside a
.zipor.rarfolder.
💡 Pro Tip: Post-Update Factory Reset
To prevent "ghost bugs" or lag from old system files, always perform a clean wipe after a manual update:
Path: Settings > Device Preferences > Reset > Erase Everything.
